SLOW SPRING
Slow spring drags its feet
through Michigan’s mud, cold
and occasional sleet.
Diffident and shy,
it tries to convince --
that its melt and slop
are investments
worth a try.
Even Easter could not resurrect
our spring this year.
God could not be prodded
to interfere.
Winter, the problem,
continues to whine --
won’t go to its room,
keeps nagging for permission
to linger
and return.
New growth in Michigan
hopes that soon
negotiations, begun in March,
will produce a truce
before June.
